A recipe should be usable by anyone standing at a stove. GL Whiskey Kitchen aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What the site does
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link as the first thing you reach.
- Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists, so screen readers can jump straight to the ingredients or the method.
- Photos have written descriptions. Decorative drawings are hidden from screen readers.
- Text and buttons are set to meet WCAG AA contrast against their backgrounds.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, the scroll animations, the moving ingredient line and the drawing effects switch off.
- Every recipe can switch between US and metric measurements, and its times are broken down step by step.
- Cook mode keeps your screen awake and enlarges the method, so you can read it from across the counter with messy hands.
- Pages zoom to 200% and reflow on small screens without sideways scrolling.
Known limits
Some placeholder photos come from a stock library and are being replaced with Ashley’s own. A few external sites linked from the recipes may not meet the same standard.
