GL Whiskey Kitchen is a personal food blog. It collects as little as it can: your email if you sign up for the newsletter, and a couple of preferences kept in your own browser. Nothing is sold, and there are no ads.
Who runs this site
GL Whiskey Kitchen is written and run by Ashley May. Questions about your data go to ashleym@thedesignerdev.com.
Newsletter signups
When you subscribe, the site collects your email address and the time you signed up. If you sign up for an alert about a specific recipe, that recipe is noted too.
Your address is stored on the site’s mailing list at Resend, the email delivery service the site uses, and Ashley gets an email letting her know you joined. You’ll get one welcome email straight away. After that, it is used only to send you the newsletter and the recipe alerts you asked for. It is never sold, rented or shared for anyone else’s marketing.
Every email has an Unsubscribe link at the bottom, and most email apps show their own Unsubscribe button too. Either one takes you off the list straight away. You can also write to ashleym@thedesignerdev.com and your address will be deleted.
The contact form
If you send a message through the contact page, your name (if you give it), email address and message are emailed to Ashley through Resend so she can reply, and you get one automatic email confirming it arrived. Sending a message does not add you to the mailing list. Your details are used only to answer you and are deleted on request.
Cookies and browser storage
The site sets no cookies unless you allow analytics (see below). It saves a few small settings in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers them on your next visit. They never leave your device:
- whether you read recipes in US or metric measurements,
- the recipes you save with the Save button,
- your choice in the privacy banner.
You can clear them any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which recipes people read, but only if you choose “Allow analytics” in the privacy banner. It is never loaded otherwise. When it runs, Google sets cookies (named _ga) and receives your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. Advertising and ad personalization features are switched off. You can change your choice at any time, and turning it off deletes those cookies: .
Things loaded from other services
Like most websites, a few pieces of each page come from other services. Loading them shares your IP address and browser type with them:
- fonts from Google Fonts,
- a few placeholder photos from Unsplash,
- the web host, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser and pages requested) to run and protect the site.
Recipes link out to brands, books and local businesses. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask what data the site holds about you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or withdraw your consent. Write to ashleym@thedesignerdev.com and you’ll get an answer within 30 days.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Big changes, like adding analytics, will be noted in the newsletter too. See also the accessibility statement.
